Remedly’s Online Consults are a great way to save your patients the hassle of coming into the office. Patients can use the HIPAA-compliant Patient Portal to answer questions, submit photos, and receive a response and cost estimate from your practice, all from the comfort of their home.
In this article you'll learn about:
- How patients submit online consults in Patient Portal
- A provider can review an online consult request
- A patient can review the provider's response
Let’s walk through the workflow of an Online Consult. We will address both the perspective of a patient as well as a practice.

Step 1: Patient Submits Online Consult in Patient Portal
- Patient logs into Patient Portal
- Patient selects Online Initial Consults on left-side menu
- Patient clicks Submit Initial Consult
- Patient clicks Start Initial Consult
- Patient chooses Provider they’d like to see and Treatment they're interested in
- Patient leaves any optional comments and indicates how soon they would prefer to be treated
- Patient uploads 1 to 6 photos of the area for which they are requesting treatment
- Patient submits the Initial Consult and can now view the submission.
Step 2: Provider reviews Patient Submission
- Provider will now notice an Online Initial Consult notification in their Dashboard.
- Provider clicks Review to open the patient's submission.
- Provider reviews the photo(s) and comments from the patient:
- Provider can indicate either an amount or a range for the procedure's estimated cost, make comments, attach forms to the response, and indicate to staff whether or not to add the patient to the schedule.
- When a provider leaves a note for a staff member, it will be visible in the staff's dashboard in the Record and Note columns.
In the record column a PDF is available to review the patient answers to the initial consult questions and the consultation results.
In the notes section a staff member can see the note that a provider left.
Note: to upload additional forms such as marketing materials or treatment information, use the Manage Brochures link under Practice Account.
Step 3: Patient reviews Provider’s response
- Patient logs into Patient Portal and notices notification for completed consultation.
- Patient clicks View.
- Patient can view the provider’s estimate and comments, and if applicable, request an appointment.
