RCM:
'COB / Insurance Policies' Dashboard
We're excited to introduce the new COB / Insurance Policies Dashboard in RCM - a centralized view designed to help your team quickly access and review patient insurance information across the entire practice.
This dashboard provides a comprehensive overview of patient insurance coverages and Coordination of Benefits (COB) setup in one place, making it easier to verify insurance information, identify potential issues before claims are submitted, and maintain accurate patient records. Whether you're preparing claims, reviewing coverage details, or cleaning up insurance data, the dashboard helps streamline day-to-day workflows and improves visibility into your practice's insurance landscape.
Getting Started
You can access the new COB / Insurance Policies Dashboard directly from the RCM main page, alongside your other RCM dashboards. Simply navigate to the dashboard panel and select COB / Insurance Policies.
What's Included
The dashboard consists of three main components:
- Insurance Policies Grid - a comprehensive view of patient insurance records across your practice, with Quick Navigation options available within it.
- Quick Search - a fast way to locate insurance information for a specific patient.
- Filter Panel - advanced filtering options to help you find exactly what you're looking for.
Insurance Policies Grid
The grid displays insurance information in a clear, easy-to-review format and includes the following details for each insurance policy:
- Patient Name
- Insurance Company
- Insurance Type
- Payer ID
- Insurance Plan
- Coverage Sequence (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, etc.)
- Insured ID
- Relationship to Insured
- Coverage Start Date
- Coverage End Date
- Status (Active / Inactive)
Each insurance policy is displayed as a separate record. As a result, patients with multiple coverages will appear on multiple rows, allowing you to review all of their insurance information in one place.
Most columns support sorting, making it easy to organize the information based on your specific needs. The dashboard also includes paging and scrolling capabilities to support larger datasets.
By default, records are sorted by Patient Name.
Quick Navigation
The dashboard provides several convenient navigation options:
- Clicking a patient's name takes you directly to the Insurance Policies tab within that patient's profile.
- The three-dot menu on each record includes a Go to Insurance Policy action, which opens the specific insurance policy record directly, eliminating the need to manually search through the patient's profile.
In addition, active and inactive insurance records are clearly distinguishable, helping users quickly assess the current state of a patient's coverage. All information displayed in the dashboard reflects the insurance setup currently configured within patient records.
Quick Search
The Quick Search feature allows you to search by patient name.
Once a patient is selected, the dashboard will display all insurance policies associated with that patient, including both active and inactive records, giving you a complete picture of their insurance history and current coverage setup.
Advanced Filtering
For more targeted searches, use the Filter Panel.
You can filter records by:
- Status:
- Active
- Inactive
- Insurance Company (search by Insurance Name or Payor ID; all insurance companies available through your connected clearinghouse can be selected).
- Insurance Type (supports multi-select filtering across 23 available insurance types).
- Sequence:
- Primary
- Secondary
- Tertiary etc.
- Relationship to Insured:
- Self
- Spouse
- Child etc.
Multiple filters can be combined to narrow results and quickly locate specific groups of patients or insurance policies.
How This Dashboard Can Help
The COB / Insurance Policies Dashboard can support a variety of operational, billing, and data quality initiatives. For example, you can:
- Review all active insurance records across your practice and identify policies that may need status updates based on coverage dates.
- Quickly locate patients with secondary or tertiary coverage and verify their Coordination of Benefits setup before claim submission.
- Identify missing, outdated, overlapping, or potentially conflicting insurance information before it leads to claim rejections or denials.
- Find all patients associated with a specific insurance company, insurance type, or insurance plan.
- Support insurance record cleanup projects by identifying records that require review or correction.
- Improve pre-billing workflows by validating insurance information before claims are submitted.
Whether you're preparing claims, researching insurance-related issues, or improving the quality of your patient data, the COB / Insurance Policies Dashboard provides a powerful new way to access and analyze insurance information across your practice.
Claim Payment Information in 'EOB/ERA Summary'
We've made a small enhancement to the EOB/ERA Summary section within Claim Details to provide a more claim-focused view of insurance payments.
The field previously labeled Claim Payment Amount has been renamed to Claim Total Paid.
In addition, the value now reflects the total amount paid by insurance specifically for the selected claim, based on the aggregated Insurance Paid amounts across all associated service lines.
This enhancement is especially valuable when a remittance includes multiple claims, as Claim Total Paid now displays only the portion of the payment associated with the claim being viewed. The updated calculation has also been applied to historical claim records, ensuring consistency across both existing and future data.
By aligning the indicator more closely with claim-level payment activity, this update provides additional visibility into insurance reimbursement and helps users review claim adjudication details more efficiently.
